Who are we?

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything happening in the world at once. But the Guilde de Résistance is a group of artists that believe our art has a voice– and impact– on our immediate surroundings and communities, and that by banding together, we can effect change locally and on a larger scale. We respond to social, political, and environmental situations and crises with our art, seeking to raise awareness, grow hope, remind those around us that beauty still exists, and change tides for the better.

What do we believe?

• We believe in the protection of human rights for all people, regardless of sex, race, gender, belief system, etc as laid out in the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

• We believe in fighting for our natural world, standing against all policies that threaten the balance of life on our planet. Even though we’ve already passed 6 of the 9 Planetary Boundaries, we fight for our communities, our wildlife, our ecosystems, our air and water.

• We believe in the Constitution of the United States of America and stand against all threats against it.

what does joining the movement mean?

Everyone wants your loyalty. We just want you to feel seen and help you find a community of like-minded creatives. If you join, we’ll keep you updated on what current events we’re involved with, resources to help you navigate them where/when relevant, and ideas for IF you want to contribute through your art. For example, if public lands under threat of logging, we’ll provide information, resources for how to reach out to those in power in a way that will effect change (such as links and templates for submitting emails to state representatives), and Calls to Action/Prompts for your art. If you have a poem, a paragraph, a painting, a dance piece– anything inspired by the Call to Action– we give you a stage to share it.

What’s with the name?

The name Guilde de la Résistance plays off of the term “Piéce de Résistance,” which is defined as “an outstanding item or event”, and the concept of an artist’s guild that’s dedicated to sociopolitical and environmental resistance. The Guilde aims to be our society’s Piéce de Résistance (or one of them, at least) regarding immediate issues.

And what’s with the Ω symbol?

Ω is a symbol for [electrical] resistance in physics. We want to be a symbol for sociological and artistic resistance in current events.
